From Chibok to Oyo: Social Media Users Praise Patience Jonathan, Question Remi Tinubu

.......Oyo Kidnapping Crisis Sparks Outrage as First Lady Distributes Vehicles to APC Women Leaders

By Passman Akpos

Abuja, Nigeria — The distribution of vehicles to women leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has triggered widespread reactions on social media amid growing concerns over insecurity across the country.

The development comes as security agencies continue efforts to secure the release of victims reportedly abducted in Oyo State, while several parts of the country continue to grapple with kidnapping, banditry, and other security challenges.

Critics of the Tinubu administration have questioned the timing of the vehicle distribution, arguing that government officials should be focusing more attention on addressing the nation’s worsening security situation and showing solidarity with affected families.

Several social media users contrasted the current situation with the actions of former First Lady Patience Jonathan during the aftermath of the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction. Commentators recalled Jonathan’s public engagement with affected communities, describing her as a compassionate figure who demonstrated empathy during one of Nigeria’s darkest moments.

“The country is facing serious security challenges, yet political activities appear to be taking center stage,” one commentator wrote online, reflecting a sentiment shared by many critics.

Others defended the First Lady, arguing that political mobilization and party activities remain a legitimate part of democratic governance and should not automatically be interpreted as indifference to national security concerns.

The controversy has also reignited debates about President Bola Tinubu’s administration, with supporters and opponents exchanging views over the government’s performance, economic policies, and handling of insecurity.

Political analysts say the reactions highlight the deep divisions that continue to shape public discourse ahead of the 2027 general elections. They note that security, cost of living, and economic reforms are likely to remain dominant issues influencing voter sentiment in the coming years.

As discussions continue online, families of kidnapping victims and communities affected by insecurity remain focused on one pressing demand: improved security measures and the safe return of those still being held captive.

The Federal Government has repeatedly stated that security agencies are working to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities across the country, while opposition voices continue to call for stronger and more visible responses to the crisis.
