Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed his condolences to the family of the late former military governor of the old Western State, General Adeyinka Adebayo, over the passing of their mother, Mrs. Modupe Adebayo.
Chief (Mrs.) Modupe Adebayo, the wife of the late Major General Adeyinka Adebayo, died on Saturday, March 8, at the age of 85.
A statement released by the Adebayo family and made available in Ado Ekiti on Sunday read: “It is with great sadness that the family of Late Major General Adeyinka Adebayo of Iyin-Ekiti announces the passing of our mother, Chief (Mrs.) Modupe Adebayo. She was the wife of the former Military Governor of the defunct Western Region, the Late Major General Robert Adeyinka Adebayo.”
According to the family, Mrs. Adebayo died after a brief illness on March 8, 2025, which coincidentally marked the 8th anniversary of her husband’s demise.
Oyebanji, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, described Mrs. Adebayo’s death as a sad development.
The governor lauded the deceased as a virtuous woman, a pillar of support for her family, and a mother who loved and cared for her children while extending her generosity and kindness to many others.
He congratulated Mrs. Joke Chukwuemeka and the entire Adebayo family on what he described as a “glorious exit” of their matriarch, noting that Mrs. Adebayo lived a life of service and honour. He added that her legacy was evident in her excellent children, a loving family, and a community that held her in high esteem.
“Mama’s passing is indeed a cause for celebration rather than mourning because she lived a good and fulfilled life,” Oyebanji said.
The governor, however, acknowledged that despite her old age, she would be sorely missed for her motherly role, wise counsel, amiable personality, and generosity of spirit.
He said: “There is no doubt that Mama lived a good and impactful life. She served God, her community, and humanity with distinction. While we would have loved to have her with us for longer, I urge her children and the entire family to find solace in the fact that Mama’s life was a blessing to many.”
Oyebanji added: “On behalf of my family, the government, and the good people of Ekiti State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the entire Adebayo family. I pray that Almighty God grants you the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and that Mama’s soul finds eternal rest.”
