Governor Diri Receives Major NECO Honour, Challenges Leaders to Deliver Real Results

By Passman Akpos

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Wednesday chaired the 187th State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting at Government House, Yenagoa, where he stressed that politics should serve as a vehicle for development rather than division among the people.

The weekly council meeting brought together commissioners and top government officials to deliberate on key policy decisions, approve projects, and address pressing administrative matters affecting the state.

Speaking during the session, Governor Diri commended Bayelsans for sustaining peace and order despite the heightened political atmosphere across the state, noting that the prevailing calm had enabled government activities to continue smoothly without disruption.

He urged citizens and political actors not to allow politics to destroy the unity and brotherly relationship among the people, emphasizing that leadership and political engagement must be centered on service and progress.

According to him, politics should not be seen as a barrier to peaceful coexistence but as a strategic platform for delivering meaningful development to the people.

“We have conducted ourselves in a way where politics should not be seen as a barrier to our brotherly fraternal relationship. Politics should be a place where we are all gearing up to serve our people and to bring further development to our state,” Governor Diri stated.

In another highlight of the meeting, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, formally presented an Award of Excellence from the National Examinations Council (NECO) to the governor.

The award was conferred on Governor Diri in recognition of Bayelsa State’s distinguished performance in NECO examinations over the 25 years of the examination body’s existence.

The recognition underscores the administration’s commitment to educational development and improved academic performance across the state.

Observers say the dual message of political maturity and educational excellence sends a strong signal about the administration’s priorities as Bayelsa continues to navigate its political and developmental journey.
