Okochiri, Niger Delta — In a decisive move to calm rising tensions over Nigeria’s controversial pipeline surveillance contracts, the leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has embarked on a strategic peace mission, beginning with a critical visit to King Ateke Tom in Rivers State.
Led by IYC President, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, the delegation—comprising top members of the 9th National Executive Council (NEC)—stormed Okochiri in what insiders describe as a “high-stakes intervention” aimed at preventing a potential breakdown of peace in the oil-rich Niger Delta.
The visit comes amid escalating agitation over the proposed decentralization of multi-billion naira pipeline surveillance contracts, a development that has sharply divided stakeholders across the region.
