Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has condemned the tragic killing of 28-year-old Mr. Oghenemine Million Ogidi and vowed to ensure that all officers responsible are brought to justice, as the Nigeria Police Force moves to dismiss and prosecute those involved in the fatal shooting incident in Effurun, Delta State.

Speaking after a visit to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command in Warri on Wednesday evening, Senator Dafinone said he met with the Inspector General of Police, represented by AIG S. G. Dogo, alongside the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, where he strongly condemned what he described as a senseless killing.

The senator said the victim, Mr. Oghenemine Million Ogidi, a 28-year-old indigene of Ujevwu in Udu Local Government Area, was a young man whose death has left his family and community devastated.

“I reaffirmed my commitment, as Senator representing Delta Central, to ensure that justice is served and that all those responsible are held fully accountable,” Dafinone stated.

He also visited the bereaved family, offering condolences and assuring them of his unwavering support until the matter reaches what he described as a just and conclusive end.

“No family should have to endure such a painful and avoidable loss,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has announced the immediate dismissal and prosecution of officers found culpable in the fatal shooting which occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun.

According to Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had earlier directed that all officers connected to the incident be withdrawn from Delta State Command and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja for expedited disciplinary proceedings.

The Force Disciplinary Committee reportedly found that the principal officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, acted in gross violation of Force Order 237 and other regulations guiding the use of firearms.

Police authorities stated that his conduct was unlawful, unprofessional, and a betrayal of the oath to protect lives and uphold the law.

As a result, the committee recommended the immediate dismissal of ASP Nuhu Usman and other officers found culpable. The recommendation has been approved by the IGP and forwarded to the Police Service Commission for ratification.

Upon completion of administrative procedures, the officers will be handed over for criminal prosecution over what police described as an extrajudicial shooting.

The Inspector-General reiterated that the Force maintains zero tolerance for abuse of power and unlawful killings.

“No uniform confers the right to take life outside the provisions of the law,” the statement read. The police also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, assuring Nigerians that justice will not only be done but will be seen to be done.

Senator Dafinone has urged residents and concerned citizens to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while allowing due process to take its course, expressing confidence that justice will prevail.
