“Only the Rich Need Apply: APC’s ₦100m Ticket Ignites Class War Debate”

By Passman Akpos

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially released a detailed timetable for its 2027 general election primaries, setting out key dates, procedures, and nomination fees for aspirants across all elective positions.

The schedule, issued in Abuja on Monday, April 20, 2026, marks the formal kickoff of the party’s internal electoral process ahead of the 2027 polls. It begins with the notification of state chapters and moves swiftly into the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms from April 25 to May 2, 2026.

According to the timetable signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, all completed forms must be submitted no later than May 4, 2026—setting a strict deadline for aspirants seeking to participate in the primaries.

Screening of aspirants for all offices—including State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship, and presidential positions—will take place between May 6 and May 8. Results are expected on May 9, followed by an appeal window from May 11 to May 13.

The APC has structured its primaries in phases, beginning with the presidential primary scheduled for May 15–16. This will be followed by the House of Representatives on May 18, Senate on May 20, State House of Assembly on May 21, and governorship primaries on May 23, 2026.

Post-primary appeals have also been outlined, with presidential appeals slated for May 18, while appeals for other categories will run between May 20 and May 25.

A major highlight of the timetable is the cost of participation. Presidential aspirants are required to pay a total of ₦100 million—₦30 million for the expression of interest form and ₦70 million for the nomination form. Governorship hopefuls will pay ₦50 million, while Senate aspirants are to pay ₦20 million. House of Representatives forms are pegged at ₦10 million, and State Assembly aspirants will pay ₦6 million.

In a move aimed at inclusivity, the party announced concessions for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities, who are required to pay only for the expression of interest form and 50 percent of the nomination fee.

Speaking on the development, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stated that the timetable complies with relevant laws, including the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, the Electoral Act 2026, and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He emphasized that the schedule reflects the party’s commitment to transparency and due process, assuring members and stakeholders of a credible primary election process.

“The timetable outlines timelines for screening, appeals, and primaries, as well as directives on the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms,” Morka said, adding that the APC remains committed to strengthening internal democracy.

The release of the timetable signals the official commencement of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, setting the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive race within Nigeria’s ruling party.
