Pipeline Cash Empires Exposed — Lawmakers Face Niger Delta Fury

Warri—A fresh wave of controversy has erupted in the Niger Delta ahead of a scheduled National Assembly probe into the controversial N2.1 trillion pipeline surveillance contract, as activist and self-styled “Voice of the Streets,” Fejiro Oliver, launched a scathing attack on individuals and companies linked to the arrangement.
In a strongly worded statement circulating on social media, Oliver accused certain beneficiaries of the surveillance contract of monopolizing resources meant for oil-producing communities, alleging that wealth derived from pipeline protection funds has been concentrated in the hands of a few individuals rather than equitably distributed across host communities
The activist specifically mentioned Kome, identified as an executive within the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), alleging that properties under construction in Warri, including a hotel project, were financed through proceeds tied to pipeline surveillance contracts. He further claimed that other individuals within the surveillance structure have allegedly amassed significant assets across Warri, Abuja, and Lagos.
Oliver also referenced companies such as Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and Maton Engineering, alleging that surveillance contracts have been disproportionately awarded to select associates, sidelining many oil-bearing communities, particularly in Isoko land.
He argued that if surveillance responsibilities were decentralized and allocated directly to communities, economic benefits would “trickle down to the grassroots,” spurring development and reducing resentment. According to him, “Every community should be allowed to guard its own pipelines and participate directly in the wealth generated from it.”
The statement comes amid heightened anticipation of a legislative probe expected to examine the financial structure, beneficiaries, and accountability mechanisms surrounding the massive surveillance deal awarded to protect critical oil infrastructure across the Niger Delta.
Oliver warned that continued centralization of the contract could escalate tensions, suggesting that unresolved grievances may affect oil production at a time when Nigeria can ill afford disruptions. He also hinted at the possibility of international scrutiny if reforms are not implemented.
While the allegations have generated intense debate online, there has been no official response yet from the individuals and companies named in the activist’s claims. Observers say the outcome of the National Assembly investigation could determine whether the surveillance framework will be restructured or maintained in its current form.
The unfolding controversy underscores longstanding concerns about transparency, community participation, and equitable distribution of oil-related wealth in the Niger Delta—issues that have historically shaped agitation and policy debates in the region.
As the probe date approaches, stakeholders across Delta State and the wider oil-producing belt are watching closely to see whether the investigation will bring clarity, reform, or further political confrontation.
