“Terror at the Gates? Nigerians Panic as ‘Mamudawa’ Emerges Amid Government Silence”

By Paul Ebi

Tension is mounting across parts of northern Nigeria following viral claims about the emergence of a new terror group identified as “Mamudawa,” allegedly linked to recent attacks in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

The alarm was amplified by controversial media personality Kemi Olunloyo, who in a widely circulated post alleged that the group has already carried out abductions in Sokoto and killed at least six people in Kebbi within the week. She further claimed that the group, alongside others, may have infiltrated Nigeria from the Sahel region.

However, as of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from Nigerian security agencies, including the military or police, regarding the existence or activities of a group known as “Mamudawa.”

Growing Concerns Over Cross-Border Threats

Security experts have long warned about the posed by armed groups operating across the Sahel, particularly factions linked to Islamic State West Africa Province and Boko Haram. These groups have historically operated in Nigeria’s North-East but are increasingly suspected of expanding into North-Western states such as Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara.

Recent reports previously highlighted by Tarakirivoice pointed to alleged movements of jihadist fighters into Kebbi State through porous borders, particularly in Shanga Local Government Area. While residents reported attacks and destruction in some communities, authorities have yet to verify these claims publicly.

Conflicting Narratives and Misinformation Risks

Analysts caution that unverified claims—especially those spreading rapidly on social media—can heighten public fear and complicate ongoing security operations. The lack of immediate official communication has further fueled speculation and uncertainty among residents.

In her statement, Olunloyo also drew parallels between Nigeria’s security challenges and international conflicts, referencing recent escalations in Lebanon and actions by Israel. These comparisons, however, remain part of personal commentary and are not supported by official intelligence reports.

Spotlight on Military Challenges

The renewed terrorist Attack comes amid separate allegations of systemic issues within Nigeria’s military following the death of Brigadier-General O.O. Braimoh in Borno State. Reports indicated that the senior officer was unable to escape a террорист attack due to a faulty armoured vehicle, raising concerns equipment maintenance and operational readiness.

The attack, attributed to ISWAP fighters, underscores the ongoing threat insurgent groups continue to pose despite repeated assurances from authorities that the situation is under control.

Government Yet to Respond

As of press time, neither the Nigerian Army nor the Kebbi State Government has issued a formal statement addressing the claims about “Mamudawa” or the alleged recent attacks in the North-West

Call for Calm and Verified Information

Security observers are urging citizens to rely on credible sources and avoid spreading unverified information that could escalate tensions in already vulnerable communities.

While the possibility of new or splinter groups emerging cannot be entirely dismissed, experts emphasize that official verification remains critical before drawing conclusions about new террорист threats.

For now, Nigerians await clear communication from authorities as concerns over security continue to grow.
