Udu, Delta State — A detailed list of mid-term projects credited to House of Representatives member Francis Ejiroghene Waive has sparked intense public debate across his constituency, with supporters hailing his performance and critics questioning the impact, spread, and transparency of the projects.
The project breakdown, widely circulated online, highlights interventions largely concentrated in Udu Local Government Area. These include the installation of multiple transformers across communities such as Orhuworun, Ujevwu, Ovwian, and Otor-Udu, alongside electricity restoration efforts in areas like Okolor, Ekrota, and Okperhenre.
Street lighting projects—both conventional and solar-powered—were also listed in several locations, including Express Junction, Ubogo Market, and Oku Layout. In the education sector, new classroom blocks and renovations were reportedly completed in Ekete, Aladja, and other communities, while Aladja Grammar School received a major facelift involving classroom upgrades, sanitation facilities, and staff quarters.
One of the most prominent claims is the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Ovwian, described as a federal government tertiary healthcare facility aimed at improving medical services in the area.
Beyond infrastructure, the report outlines empowerment initiatives ranging from the distribution of vehicles and sewing machines to cash grants, employment opportunities, and loan schemes for hundreds of beneficiaries.
However, the publication has triggered a wave of skepticism and criticism, particularly from constituents who argue that many of the projects are either overstated, poorly executed, or unevenly distributed.
Several residents questioned why the majority of projects appear concentrated in Udu, despite the lawmaker representing a broader federal constituency covering multiple local government areas. “Is it only Udu he represents?” one critic asked, echoing a widely shared concern about inclusivity.
Others raised doubts about the functionality of some installations. Complaints about faulty transformers and irregular electricity supply were common, with some alleging that residents had to contribute financially for installations that were later presented as constituency projects.
The empowerment programs also came under scrutiny, as some commenters demanded transparency regarding beneficiary selection. “Who really received these cars and machines?” one resident queried.
There were also contrasting views. Supporters defended the lawmaker’s record, describing it as “quality representation” and urging critics to acknowledge visible development strides. Some emphasized that history would judge the lawmaker favorably for his contributions.
The debate has also drawn comparisons with other political figures in Delta State, with critics suggesting alternative models of empowerment they believe deliver more direct economic benefits.
As the conversation intensifies, the situation reflects a broader national pattern where constituency project claims are increasingly subjected to public verification, especially through social media scrutiny.
For now, the mid-term report has achieved one clear outcome: it has ignited a passionate conversation about representation, accountability, and what truly qualifies as impactful governance in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
