By Passman Akpos

Troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation WHIRL STROKE have intensified offensive operations in Benue State, successfully dislodging a notorious armed syndicate operating within Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.

The coordinated raid, executed by Sector 1 troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE, followed credible and actionable intelligence on the activities of a wanted bandit leader and his associates. Security sources revealed that the criminal kingpin had established a hideout at Mtan Village in Utange Council Ward of Katsina-Ala LGA.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops advanced to the identified location and made contact with the armed elements. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, forcing the terrorists to abandon their enclave and flee under sustained military pressure.

During the exploitation phase of the operation, troops recovered a significant cache of ammunition and logistics items. Items recovered include two motorcycles believed to belong to the syndicate leader, eight magazines, 162 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm special ammunition, 10 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition, 44 rounds of 9mm ammunition, links of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and seven empty 7.62mm NATO cartridge casings.

Additionally, a red Toyota vehicle found at the scene was demobilized to prevent its further use for criminal activities.

The Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the intelligence team for providing timely information that led to the success of the mission. He also praised the troops for their resilience, professionalism, and tactical dexterity in confronting the criminal elements.

Reaffirming the commitment of Operation WHIRL STROKE to restoring peace in the region, Major General Gara emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between security agencies and local communities. He urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information, stressing that intelligence remains critical in the fight against terrorism and criminality in Benue and its environs.

The operation marks another significant step in ongoing efforts to dismantle armed networks and stabilize affected communities across the state.
