A disturbing incident has sent shockwaves through Agwabi community in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State after a mortician was arrested for publicly carrying a human leg—allegedly as a form of protest against what he described as government neglect.

In a trending video obtained by Tarakirivoice, the man—identified as Amaobi—is seen seated on the ground clutching the severed limb while being interrogated by a police officer. The footage, which has sparked outrage online, captures the suspect calmly explaining his actions.

According to Amaobi, he resorted to the shocking act to draw urgent attention to what he claims is a growing crisis in his mortuary. He alleged that no fewer than 18 bodies, reportedly belonging to suspected criminals killed by security operatives, were deposited in his facility and have remained unclaimed for an extended period.

Eyewitnesses say the incident began when Amaobi reportedly took the human leg from his mortuary and used it as a walking aid while heading to a nearby shop to purchase items. His unusual appearance quickly drew the attention of residents, who raised alarm and apprehended him before handing him over to authorities.

“When security personnel arrived, he said it was a deliberate protest,” a local source revealed. “He claimed he has repeatedly called on authorities to evacuate the bodies, but nobody responded.”

The bizarre demonstration has left residents stunned, with many expressing both fear and anger over the situation. Some community members questioned the handling of corpses by authorities, while others condemned the mortician’s method as deeply disturbing and unacceptable.

Security operatives have since taken Amaobi into custody, and he is expected to be transferred to the police station at Buruku Local Government headquarters for further investigation.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the claims of abandoned bodies. The incident has ignited wider concerns about mortuary management, accountability of security agencies, and the psychological toll on workers handling unclaimed corpses.

As investigations continue, many are asking pressing questions: How did the situation escalate to this point—and who is responsible for the alleged neglect?
