“50-Year Abandoned Hospital Finally Opens — Osinbajo, Diri Turn Neglect Into Triumph”

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has inaugurated the Agbura–Ox-bow Lake Road in Yenagoa Local Government Area and the Oporoma Referral Hospital located in Osokama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, describing Governor Douye Diri as a leader endowed with foresight and vision.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Osinbajo expressed admiration for the scale and impact of developmental projects executed by the Bayelsa State government, noting that residents and Nigerians at large have witnessed purposeful leadership under Diri’s administration. He emphasized that when leaders understand the divine responsibility of power, governance translates into tangible benefits for the people.
“God does not make mistakes in leadership,” Osinbajo stated, adding that Governor Diri’s performance reflects a clear understanding of his mandate and a commitment to public service.
In his remarks, Governor Diri appreciated the former Vice President for also performing the groundbreaking ceremony of the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, while highlighting the significance of the newly inaugurated Oporoma Referral Hospital—whose construction began over five decades ago.
Reaffirming his administration’s core philosophy of unity, peace, reconciliation, and development, Diri pledged further infrastructural expansion in the area. He announced plans to construct the access road leading to Osokama, fence the hospital premises, and connect both Oporoma and the referral facility to the state-owned gas turbine to ensure stable electricity supply.
The event drew a high-profile audience, including the Governor’s wife, Dr. Gloria Diri; Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe; Senators Konbowei Benson and Benson Agadaga; Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei; former SSG, Alabo Gideon Ekeuwei; Chairman of Southern Ijaw LGA, Hon. Isaiah Target; and traditional ruler, HRM King Bubaraye Dakolo, alongside other top government officials and citizens.
The commissioning marks another milestone in Bayelsa’s ongoing infrastructure drive, signaling renewed hope for improved healthcare access and connectivity in riverine communities.
