BREAKING: Panic in Plateau as Hospital Raises Alarm Over Plot to Kidnap Doctors, Nurses

Tension is mounting in Plateau State following a disturbing internal memo from the Plateau State Specialist Hospital warning of a coordinated plan by armed groups to abduct healthcare workers across the state.
According to findings by SaharaReporters, the hospital management issued an urgent notice to all departments, units, and staff after receiving intelligence reports indicating an emerging threat targeting doctors, nurses, and auxiliary personnel—particularly those working in vulnerable rural areas.
The memo, signed by the hospital’s Director of Administration, Jina Leah, revealed that the suspected bandits and terrorist groups intend to forcibly abduct medical professionals and compel them to treat injured fighters suffering from gunshot wounds and other battle-related injuries.
“This development reflects a tactical shift by the group, aimed at sustaining operational capability and reducing mortality among their fighters,” the statement read. “The trend poses a serious risk to healthcare workers, especially in the hinterlands.”
The warning has triggered widespread fear among medical personnel, many of whom already operate under difficult and insecure conditions. Health authorities stressed that the threat is particularly severe in remote communities where security presence is minimal or entirely absent.
In response, the hospital directed all healthcare institutions across the state to immediately sensitise staff and enforce strict vigilance measures. Workers have been urged to heighten both personal and workplace security, remain alert to suspicious movements, and promptly report any concerns to security agencies.
“In view of the foregoing, there is a need for health workers to adopt personal and workplace security measures to avoid being victims of these bad elements,” the memo added, emphasizing the urgency of proactive safety steps.
While the hospital confirmed that security agencies are taking steps to prevent possible attacks, it did not disclose specific operational details, further deepening anxiety among workers and residents.
The development highlights a growing and dangerous evolution in the tactics of armed groups operating across northern Nigeria. Over the years, insurgent factions such as Boko Haram and various bandit networks have expanded their activities beyond raids on villages and highways, increasingly targeting professionals critical to community survival.
Security analysts note that the abduction of healthcare workers represents a strategic move designed to sustain insurgent operations, especially in remote camps where access to formal medical care is nonexistent. By forcing skilled professionals into captivity, these groups can maintain their fighting strength and reduce casualties.
This latest alert adds to the growing list of security challenges confronting states like Zamfara, Kaduna, and Niger, where kidnapping for ransom and territorial dominance have become entrenched.
