Delta:”Kidnappers Kill Palm Wine Tapper After Family Begs With Their Last N10,000”

By Passman Akpos

A tragic incident has unfolded in Emuhu, near Agbor in Delta State, where two palm wine tappers were abducted by armed men, leading to the killing of one victim after his family reportedly offered N10,000 during ransom negotiations.

Human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu, who first reported the kidnapping on Tuesday, said he immediately halted all engagements to assist in the rescue operation.

According to Gwamnishu, multiple security formations responded quickly, launching a coordinated search across communities in Delta and neighbouring Edo State. The joint operation involved the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Emuhu Vigilante Group, Anti-Cult Abavo, Operation Soup, and several teams of Police officers.

The search covered a wide stretch of terrain — from Emuhu to Abavo, Obi-Ayama, and finally Urhonigbe, where one of the kidnapped tappers was eventually found alive.

The rescued victim recounted the horrifying ordeal, revealing that his colleague was killed after the colleague’s family attempted to negotiate with the kidnappers using the only money they could gather — N10,000.

Gwamnishu described the development as heartbreaking and reflective of the dire security challenges rural dwellers face daily.

> “This is the painful reality our people are facing,” he lamented.

Security agencies are continuing investigations as residents express growing fear over rising cases of kidnappings in the region.
