Troops of the Nigerian Army under Headquarters 63 Brigade/Sector 1 of Operation DELTA SAFE have recorded a major breakthrough in a rapid-response operation in Ogidigben Community, leading to the recovery of arms and the arrest of two suspected criminals.
The operation was launched following reports of sporadic gunfire in the riverine community. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops swiftly moved into the area, where they successfully intercepted the suspects and confiscated a cache of weapons. Items recovered include four AK-47 rifles, six magazines, 106 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two knives, ten machetes, and four rain boots.
Security sources confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation as authorities work to uncover possible links to wider criminal networks in the region.
Commending the troops for their professionalism and resilience, the Commander of 63 Brigade, Moronfolu Abdulmoshood Shonibare, urged them to maintain the momentum in ongoing operations across the Niger Delta. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action and warned individuals or groups involved in illegal arms possession or violent activities to desist or face decisive military action.
The operation underscores the continued efforts of Operation DELTA SAFE to restore peace and security in Delta State, a region that has long grappled with militancy, oil theft, and armed criminality.
