Outrage in Niger Delta: Ijaw Youth Accused of Selling Out Brothers for Tantita Contract — “You Handed Your Own Brothers to Government for Small Money!”

.......As Ijaw Community Erupts in Anger Over Alleged Betrayal of Youths to Security Agencies

Tension is rising in the Ijaw community following allegations that a local Tantita coodinaor, identified by several residents as Ebodei Joseph, allegedly handed over some youths from Gbaramatu/Gbaraun creek to government security agencies over accusations linked to illegal bunkering and possession of firearms.

The controversy began after social media posts by Etonzor Joseph accused an unnamed “contract seeker” of betraying his own brothers for personal gain and government favors.

“Betraying your brother and handing him over to government without doing anything wrong, alleging him with a gun because you want more contracts, means the whole Ijaw people now know who you are. Mr contract seeker, continue plotting and betraying your brothers for personal gains,” he wrote.

The statement triggered massive reactions online, with many community members expressing outrage and questioning why fellow Ijaw youths would be handed over to authorities by one of their own.

Some commenters alleged that the arrested youths were involved in illegal bunkering activities, while others insisted there was no clear explanation of their offence and accused the contractor of using the Tantita connection to settle personal scores.

“Na bunkers dem handle like bandits,” one commenter claimed, while another fired back, “What was the offence? Your post didn’t give details. Please explain so we can understand.”

Several residents condemned what they described as betrayal for contracts and political relevance, warning that such actions could deepen divisions within the Niger Delta.

“One day this contract work will finish, and everybody will face the consequences,” another angry resident wrote.

Others compared the situation to the historic Niger Delta struggle, warning against internal division among Ijaw youths.

“If Adaka Boro had known, we wouldn’t be suffering today. Now everybody is betraying each other because of contracts,” another resident lamented.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from Tantita Security Services, security agencies, or the accused contractor regarding the allegations or the exact reason for the reported arrests.

The incident has continued to spark heated debate across the Niger Delta, with many demanding transparency over what truly led to the arrest and whether justice or personal interest was behind the action.
