“Desperation Unmasked: Boko Haram Resorts to Lies as Military Secures Borno”

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have reaffirmed their dominance in Ngoshe and the wider Gwoza axis of Borno State, successfully countering insurgent threats and ensuring residents celebrated a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr without disruption.
According to a statement issued by Appolonia Anele, the military decisively thwarted attempts by Boko Haram and ISWAP elements to spread fear through misinformation. The террорист groups had allegedly circulated false claims of plans to overrun Ngoshe and stage Sallah prayers at the Central Mosque—an effort described by the Army as a sign of desperation and declining operational strength.
Security sources revealed that troops acted swiftly on credible intelligence following an attempted incursion on March 4. Reinforcements were immediately deployed, while intensified clearance operations—backed by aerial surveillance—successfully disrupted insurgent movements. Several fighters were reportedly neutralised in the process, further weakening the groups’ already diminished capacity.
Throughout the Sallah period, Ngoshe and surrounding communities remained calm and fully secured, allowing residents to observe Eid prayers and festivities without fear. The Army noted that the peaceful celebrations underscored the failure of terrorist propaganda aimed at creating panic in the region.
In a symbolic show of confidence and control, the Commander of the 26 Task Force Brigade, N.I. Abdullahi, joined worshippers at the Ngoshe Central Mosque for Eid prayers. The gesture was widely seen as a reassurance to residents and a demonstration of the military’s firm grip on the area.
The Chief of Army Staff commended the resilience and cooperation of local communities, emphasizing that civilian support remains a critical factor in sustaining recent gains against insurgency in the North East.
Residents were urged to ignore and avoid spreading terrorist propaganda, which authorities described as a deliberate tactic by weakened groups to instill fear and undermine security efforts.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to maintaining aggressive operations across the theatre, vowing to consolidate its gains, eliminate remaining threats, and ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
