Ojobo Crisis Forces Emergency Transition Committee as Government Faces Tough Questions

The Executive Chairman of Burutu Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Dr. Julius Takeme, Ph.D, JP, has officially constituted a Transition Committee to oversee the administration of Ojobo Community pending the conduct of a council-supervised election.

The move follows the earlier dissolution of existing leadership structures in the community after a breakdown of law and order that reportedly led to loss of life, insecurity, and prolonged internal tensions.

According to the official announcement released by the council, Barr. Rolands Ombe has been appointed as Chairman of the Ojobo Community Transition Committee.

Other members of the committee include:

Arikpedebo Okporu — Member

Saibi Areprekumor — Member

Akasa Richard — Member

Kokole Patrick — Member

Okowa Zenebor — Member

Barr. Otutufegha David — Secretary

The council stated that the committee is expected to manage the administrative affairs of the federated communities of Ojobo until peace is fully restored and a duly elected leadership is put in place.

In an official correspondence addressed to the General Manager of Government and Community Relations, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Ltd, the Burutu Council explained that the decision was reached after a stakeholders’ meeting necessitated by worsening insecurity and the collapse of peace in the area.

“The position was taken by government at the end of a stakeholders meeting with the community which was necessitated by the breakdown of law and order leading to loss of life and total insecurity in the community,” the letter stated.

The Executive Chairman further noted that the Transition Committee would remain in charge until normalcy returns and elections are conducted.

Residents and stakeholders of Ojobo have been urged to cooperate fully with the committee in the interest of peace, stability, and development.This latest intervention comes amid growing concern over the persistent unrest in Ojobo.

Recall that Tarakirivoice earlier reported the viral “Boat vs Land” confrontation that exposed fresh tension in the community, where youths on land were seen hurling objects at occupants of speedboats in a chaotic clash that triggered widespread outrage.

The disturbing incident came shortly after the violent crisis that claimed a life and forced the Burutu Local Government Chairman to dissolve the Amananawei leadership, the PIA Board, and other existing governing structures.

With the appointment of the new Transition Committee, many residents now hope the intervention will help restore calm and prevent Ojobo from slipping further into instability.

However, observers say true peace will depend on transparency, justice, and the willingness of all factions within the community to embrace dialogue over confrontation.
