Police Move to Prosecute TikTok User Over Alleged False Rape Claim in Ogun

The Nigeria Police Force has initiated steps to arrest and prosecute a female TikTok user identified as Mirabel over an alleged false rape claim that recently sparked widespread debate across social media.
Sources within the Ogun State command disclosed that the Ogun State Police Command began reviewing the case after a viral audio conversation surfaced online in which Mirabel reportedly admitted that aspects of her earlier allegation were untrue.
The audio recording, which circulated heavily on TikTok and other platforms, featured Mirabel speaking with social media personality VeryDarkMan, during which she was allegedly heard apologizing and acknowledging inconsistencies in her initial account.
According to police sources, Mirabel will be taken into custody for questioning once she is discharged from the hospital where she is currently receiving medical attention.
Background of the Allegation
Mirabel had earlier claimed in a viral video that she was attacked and raped by a stranger who allegedly forced his way into her apartment in the Ogijo area of Ogun State. The emotional narration quickly drew public sympathy and triggered strong reactions online, with many users calling for swift justice.
However, the narrative began to shift after the emergence of the phone conversation suggesting that parts of the story may have been fabricated.Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the command was reviewing all available evidence.
“The matter is under investigation, and the command will provide an official update after due process,” she stated.
