“Tinubu Loyalist Omo-Agege Re-enters Race, Opposition Braces for Political Earthquake”

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially declared his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a detailed declaration released on April 22, 2026, Omo-Agege said his decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders, traditional rulers, and constituents across the eight local government areas of Delta Central. He described his return bid as a “response to overwhelming calls” from the Urhobo people for experienced representation at the National Assembly.

The former lawmaker, who represented Delta Central from 2015 to 2023, emphasized that his ambition is rooted in service rather than personal gain. He pledged to provide strong legislative leadership and ensure the district regains what he described as a “powerful and respected voice” in the Senate.

Omo-Agege highlighted his previous tenure as a period of significant federal presence in the region, citing projects such as the establishment of a federal polytechnic, a National Defence Space School, and an oil and gas industrial park aimed at boosting local employment and economic growth. He also pointed to interventions in healthcare, education, rural electrification, and ICT development across the district.

Reaffirming his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he declared strong support for the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” describing ongoing economic reforms as “tough but necessary” for long-term national stability. He argued that continuity in leadership at the federal level would ensure the completion of key infrastructure projects and sustained economic growth.

The APC chieftain outlined key priorities for his proposed tenure to include attracting federal infrastructure, expanding job opportunities for youths and women, strengthening security, and advancing legislation that directly benefits Delta Central. He stressed the need for strategic engagement in lawmaking, budgeting, and national policy decisions.

Calling for unity within the APC in Delta State, Omo-Agege urged party members to rally together ahead of the 2027 elections, promising to support all party candidates emerging from the primaries.

He concluded by appealing to voters across political divides to view the election as a contest of ideas and performance, while reiterating his commitment to protecting the interests and dignity of the Urhobo Nation.

The declaration sets the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive race for Delta Central, with political observers anticipating intense debate over representation, performance, and alignment with the federal government’s agenda.
