28 Years Gone! Pastor Fidelis Blasts Asu Ekiye, Says Gospel Minister May Have Made “Greatest Mistake”

Niger Delta Gospel Community: A cleric, Pastor Omoni Ebikefe Fidelis, has publicly questioned gospel musician Asu Ekiye’s decision to end his 28-year marriage to Kunemofa Asu, describing the development as a serious matter that deserves greater explanation.
Fidelis, in a message directed at Ekiye and made available to Tarakiri Voice, said the celebrated gospel minister may have made what he described as “the greatest mistake” of his life by bringing the long-standing marriage to an end
His reaction followed Ekiye’s recent public announcement that his 28-year marriage had ended.
Ekiye, popularly associated with the Niger Delta gospel music scene and known for the hit song “Wekiliemo,” had announced that the marriage ended about a year ago, explaining that he deliberately waited before making the matter public to gain perspective, clarity and acceptance.
However, Fidelis questioned why the circumstances surrounding the separation were not disclosed.
“Tell the gospel music Minister that he has made the greatest mistake of his life by ending his 28 years marriage with his wife,” Fidelis said.
He argued that while Ekiye was entitled to announce the end of the marriage, the absence of an explanation had left room for questions and speculation.
“Besides, he didn’t tell the world the reason for breaking up a marriage of 28 years but he was bold enough to announce it to the world,” he added.
The pastor further appealed directly to Ekiye as a Christian minister, questioning whether the decision to end the marriage was consistent with his faith and calling.
“Tell that Man of God Ekiye that God didn’t tell him to break up his marriage just like that,” Fidelis stated.
He, however, raised adultery as one possible circumstance that could have contributed to the breakdown, while stressing that he was not asserting that such conduct occurred.
“If she committed adultery is the reason why, well he should tell the world then we will take it up from there and do what is necessary to be done,” he said.
Fidelis also specifically appealed to Tarakiri Voice to ensure that his message reaches both Ekiye and his estranged wife.
“TARAKIRI VOICE, make sure this message gets to him and his wife too,” he said.
Ekiye’s Earlier Announcement
Earlier, Tarakiri Voice reported that Ekiye had publicly announced the end of his 28-year marriage in a statement marked by what he described as “sobriety and quiet resignation.”
The gospel artiste said the marriage had ended approximately one year earlier but that he had chosen to keep the matter private until he had gained sufficient perspective and acceptance.
According to Ekiye, the relationship represented a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection.
He said that although some chapters of life could be significant and memorable, they could eventually come to an end.
Ekiye did not disclose the circumstances that led to the collapse of the marriage, nor did he publicly accuse his estranged wife of wrongdoing.
His announcement therefore presented the separation as a private personal transition rather than a public dispute.
The development has nevertheless generated reactions within the Niger Delta gospel and Christian community, particularly because the marriage lasted nearly three decades.
Pastor Fidelis’ intervention has now added a new dimension to the conversation, with questions being raised about whether Ekiye should provide further explanation about what led to the end of the marriage.
As of the time of this report, Ekiye had not publicly responded to Fidelis’ remarks.
Tarakiri Voice reports that any allegation concerning adultery or other misconduct remains unsubstantiated unless supported by evidence or confirmed by the parties involved. The circumstances surrounding the dissolution of the marriage remain known primarily to Ekiye and his estranged wife.
