BREAKING: Nigerian Army Under Cyberattack? Official X Account Targeted In Shocking Breach Attempt

ABUJA — The Nigerian Army has raised the alarm over an attempted cyber breach of its official X account, warning members of the public and the media to disregard any suspicious or unauthorised information posted on the platform.
The Army said the attempted unauthorised access occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, and is being treated as a cybersecurity incident.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said immediate technical and protective measures had been activated to secure the account, prevent further unauthorised access and protect the integrity of information disseminated through the platform.
The development has raised concerns over the security of one of the Nigerian military’s major public communication channels, particularly because information released through official military accounts can have significant implications for national security and public confidence.
The Army assured Nigerians, the media and other stakeholders that efforts were ongoing to fully secure the affected account and restore exclusive administrative control.
“The public is advised to exercise caution and disregard any suspicious, unauthorised, misleading or unverified content emanating from the affected account,” the statement warned
According to the Army, any such content should not be regarded as representing its official position.
The military further urged members of the public and journalists to independently verify information through its other recognised communication platforms until the incident is fully resolved.

It also thanked members of the public for their vigilance, understanding and cooperation, promising to provide further updates as necessary.
