IGP inaugurates new force management team, sets agenda for police reform

In a strategic move to enhance the leadership and operational efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on March 10, 2025, inaugurated a newly restructured Force Management Team (FMT) following the appointment of six new Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs).
According to Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP charged the FMT with aligning police operations with the Federal Government’s agenda, emphasizing the need for a professionally competent, service-driven, and people-friendly police force capable of addressing modern security challenges.
The FMT will focus on reorganizing the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and other investigative units to enhance their efficiency.
As part of the reform, the IGP ordered an update of the Force criminal database and directed the Department of Research and Planning (R&P) to work closely with the Force Intelligence Department (FID) and the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve data integration and support investigative operations.
The IGP stressed the importance of equipping the police with modern technologies, advanced training, and adequate resources to enhance investigative capacity while ensuring professionalism, justice, and respect for human rights.
The formation of the new FMT marks a significant step toward improving the effectiveness and accountability of the Nigeria Police Force.
