Armed terrorists have killed three youths during a midnight invasion of Pwomol Village in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred around midnight, reportedly targeted vigilante youths who were keeping watch over the community. It marks the second assault on Pwomol Village within a single week, raising fresh concerns over recurring insecurity in the area.
One additional victim sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment in a nearby hospital.
The incident was confirmed by Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), who disclosed that security operatives later arrested a suspected attacker at about 1:00 a.m. around the Redemption Camp axis between Heipang and Kassa.
According to Tengwong, the suspect was found with bloodstains on his body and has since been taken into custody by security personnel stationed at Sector 4 in Barkin Ladi for further investigation.
The Berom Youth Moulders-Association, led by its National President Dalyop Mwantiri, strongly condemned the attack and called on relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.
The group also urged authorities to ensure that the arrested suspect is swiftly brought to justice and compelled to provide information that could lead to the arrest of other individuals involved in the attack.
Commending the rapid response of security forces, the association praised the intervention of the Special Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, for their role in stabilizing the situation. It also appealed to residents of the area to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movements to security agencies.
“The Berom Youth Moulders-Association remains committed to the protection of lives and the pursuit of justice for victims of violent attacks across Berom land and beyond,” the group stated.
