Fresh outrage has erupted across Nigeria following the recent killings in Jos, as prominent cleric Johnson Suleiman delivered a scathing indictment of the nation’s leadership, accusing it of prioritizing politics over the protection of lives.
In a strongly worded statement, Suleiman described the attack as “another evidence of failed leadership,” lamenting what he called a growing culture of negligence and misplaced priorities among those in power.
According to the outspoken preacher, the tragedy reflects a leadership structure that has become more invested in “pre-election jamborees and pre-coronation plans” than in safeguarding citizens. He warned that history would not be kind to leaders who, in his words, have “emboldened, enabled, and replicated what they once vehemently condemned.”
The cleric further stressed that while faith and prayers remain important, they cannot substitute for decisive governance and responsibility. “I believe in the power of prayers,” he stated, “but prayers won’t replace responsibility. We need humane leaders.”
Suleiman did not hold back in his criticism, accusing current leaders of lacking empathy and emotional connection to the suffering of ordinary Nigerians. “These current folks have zero affiliation with empathy,” he said, adding that many citizens are now overwhelmed by exhaustion and frustration over recurring violence.
