“Tinubu And DSS DG Will Be Gone!” — Sowore Declares As DSS Reportedly Seeks To Pause Case Until After 2027

Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has declared that the alleged political persecution against him will end after the 2027 presidential election, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Department of State Services (DSS) Director-General Tosin Ajayi will no longer be in their current positions.

Sowore made the declaration while reacting to reports that the DSS had directed its legal team to seek an adjournment of the cybercrime case against him until after the 2027 presidential election.

“You won’t be taking my case anywhere after the 2027 election because both Bola Tinubu, on whose behalf you instituted these ridiculous charges, and Tosin Ajayi, the deeply insecure DG of the DSS who initiated these farcical cybercrime charges against me, will be gone after the election,” Sowore stated.

He alleged that the case formed part of a broader campaign of political persecution and accused government institutions of being weaponised against political opponents.

“The political persecution will end, the abuse of state institutions will end, and those who weaponized public institutions against political opponents will have to answer for their actions,” he added.

Sowore then made a bold prediction about the 2027 presidential contest.

“After the 2027 election, Sowore will be the President of Nigeria,” he declared, ending his statement with the slogan: “No going back!”

The development comes amid reports that the DSS has asked its counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, to seek an adjournment of the cybercrime proceedings until after the 2027 election.

According to the report, the proposed pause is intended to allow Sowore, who is expected to participate in the 2027 presidential election, to campaign without ongoing court proceedings interfering with his political activities.

The DSS had instituted the case following social media posts by Sowore in August 2025 in which he described President Tinubu as a “criminal.”

After Sowore declined to remove the posts following a seven-day ultimatum issued by the security agency, the DSS approached the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking judicial determination of whether it was lawful for an individual to publicly describe the President or another person as a “criminal.”

X, formerly known as Twitter, and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, were initially joined as parties to the proceedings. However, the Federal High Court subsequently struck out the two technology companies, leaving Sowore as the sole defendant.

Sowore pleaded not guilty to amended charges brought under the Cybercrimes Act 2024 and has repeatedly described the prosecution as politically motivated.

He has also instituted fundamental rights proceedings against the DSS and the technology companies, challenging what he considers attempts to suppress his freedom of expression.

According to a source close to the DSS legal team cited in the report, Ajayi met with the senior lawyer and senior officers of the agency’s legal directorate on August 20 to discuss the possibility of pausing the case.

The meeting reportedly followed the commencement of the 2027 presidential campaign period.

The source claimed that the DSS leadership considered it appropriate to allow Sowore to participate fully in the electoral process without the court case becoming a hindrance.

The source further alleged that Ajayi told the legal team that the case had already remained in court for almost a year and that an additional four-month suspension would not make a significant difference.

The DSS was also reportedly considering a review of similar cases involving candidates contesting other elective positions.

The agency has previously maintained that the Sowore case was not designed simply to restrict his political activities, but was intended to obtain judicial clarification on whether describing President Tinubu or another individual as a “criminal” constitutes an offence.

In correspondence to Meta in September 2025, the DSS also argued that its responsibility to protect the President extends beyond physical security to what it described as psychological attacks.

With the 2027 election approaching, the reported decision to seek an adjournment has added a fresh political dimension to the long-running legal battle between Sowore and the security agency.

For Sowore, however, the matter appears to have become part of a larger political contest. His latest statement transforms the reported courtroom pause into a direct challenge to the Tinubu administration — and a declaration that he intends to turn the 2027 election into his biggest political battle yet.
