By Passman Akpos

Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 32 Artillery Brigade have neutralised two suspected armed terrorists and recovered weapons during a tactical operation in Ondo State.

The operation, carried out by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Auga, followed credible human intelligence on the movement of suspected criminal elements along the Akunu–Auga road axis on February 14, 2026

According to a statement signed by Major Irabor Njoka, Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 32 Artillery Brigade, the troops swiftly mobilised and intercepted the suspects. A fierce firefight ensued after the armed elements engaged the advancing troops.

The soldiers’ superior firepower overwhelmed the criminals, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists, while others escaped into the surrounding area with suspected gunshot wounds.

The operation was conducted in collaboration with personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, and local vigilante groups.

Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit drugs, charms, and the sum of ₦39,000, among other personal effects.

Military authorities described the operation as a significant blow to criminal networks operating within the Akunu–Auga corridor, reaffirming the Army’s determination to deny terrorists and other armed groups freedom of movement across the state.

The Brigade assured residents that it will sustain aggressive clearance and exploitation operations, intensify patrols along identified criminal routes, and deepen collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to maintain peace and security in Ondo State.

The military also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

The statement was issued on February 15, 2026.
